Italy was always
going to be someday.

A story from Nick

My parents always said they would go to Italy when the kids were older. When they had more money. When they had more time.

That day never came. My father died unexpectedly at 64.

So I took my mom on the trip they should have taken together. The two of us strengthened our bond like never before.

I thought I would be the only kid on the trip with a single parent. How wrong I was. There were seven other pairs just like us—an adult child and their parent, sharing the experience.

01Do I have to travel with a parent or an adult child?

No. A trip with my mother inspired Us and Away, but it isn’t only for parents and adult children. Come with your partner, a friend, or someone else you want to share the experience with. Everyone on our trips must be at least 18.

02Do you trace our genealogy or find ancestral records?

Us and Away focuses on organized group trips to heritage-rich destinations. Personal genealogy research, private family-history tours, and ancestral-record searches are not included unless a departure explicitly says so.

03Do we need a family connection to the destination?

Not at all. A place you have dreamed of visiting together is just as meaningful as somewhere your family came from.

04What level of comfort should we expect?

Comfortable travel with thoughtful little luxuries: curated tours, skip-the-line visits where available, specialty restaurants, and time to explore on your own. The hotels, specific inclusions, and walking involved will be clearly described for each departure.

05What if my travel companion needs a slower pace?

Tell Nick about any mobility or pacing concerns before booking. We will talk through the actual itinerary together. Suitability and accessibility vary by destination and property.
